ISAIAH’S END-TIME TIMELINE
Isaiah’s End-time Timeline Chapter 64
JERUSALEM TRODDEN DOWN BY GENTILES
Luke 21:20-28, Isaiah 1:9, Zechariah 13:8-9, Psalm 83:1-5
Luke 21:22 “For these be the days of vengeance…” The “days of Vengeance” referred to here by our Lord are NOT specific references to the days leading up to Titus’s destruction of Jerusalem. It is descriptive of those days immediate to the “Day of Vengeance.” (That DAY described in Isaiah 63:1-6 and Revelation 19:11-21) “…that all things which are written may be fulfilled.”
All things accomplished which are written, is a reference to ALL the prophets and prophecy that was written as it relates to Jerusalem and the Land. [Luke 21verse 20-28 with Isaiah 1:9 Zechariah 13:8,9 14:1,2]
“….in those days!” [Luke 21:23,24] This refers to days in the future, the very last days, and is a reference to those last days of God’s vengeance on apostate Jerusalem. “…and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, ad shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the gentiles be fulfilled….” That is to say that time when God’s vengeance is being completed on Israel/Jerusalem, and on the Wicked nations, and finally on the supernatural enemy forces overwhelming and destroying the earth.
That trodding down of Luke 21:24 is that of Revelation 11:2. “But the court which is without the temple leave out and measure it not: for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.” And so it is that at the end of that specified time, wherein is the great persecution of Israel, is when the times of the gentiles will be fulfilled. (Let us remember that when John wrote these Words, the destruction of Jerusalem by Titus was already past by at least twenty years. So this treading down, was yet to come, and is yet to come, for there has been no treading down of Jerusalem since A. D. 70, and certainly not one just preceding and leading to the Coming of the Lord.)
It is in those yet future days where all that is written will be fulfilled; that both Jesus and the Prophets point to. It is to those 2520 specific days (7 years), and the 1000 years following (in the Millennium of Jesus Christ’s Kingdom on the earth) that most of the prophecy of Isaiah is written, as is also the Book of Revelation.
Isaiah 64 in summary, speaks to the last days of vengeance that quickly lead to that single Day of Vengeance presented to our view again, as already portrayed in Isaiah 63:1-4. Preceding, according to the prophetic Word, is
The trodding down of Jerusalem for forty and two months of the Gentile Nations. That then leads up to the DAY of the trodding of the winepress of God’s Wrath. [Revelation 14:20 with 19:21]
Isaiah 64 begins with, “Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence. As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence! When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.” [See Exodus 19:18 then Hebrews 12:26] To which Christ’s continuing predictive Words answer to in Luke 21:25. “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.”
This prayer and prophecy finds fulfillment in Revelation 12. (Read.)
Note that in verse 14, the days of vengeance, leading up to the Day of vengeance, corresponds and is the same 42 months of Revelation 11:2, the last ½ of those days. Additionally note that 11:3 then gives us the first ½ of the days of vengeance, in that the prophesying of the 2 Witnesses, before the beast murders them, is also 42 months. Together they make up the Tribulation period, the specific Last Days time the Lord and Isaiah are referring to. This is that 70th week of Daniel, that one 7 year period, yet to be fulfilled, which must be in full accord with these same prophesies.
Realizing that Revelation Chapters 12 along with 13 & 14 are an interposition between 11 and 15 to backfill and give more detail, in 12:5 we discover first the catching up into the heavens the First-Fruits of the living faithful in Jesus Christ. (That being in answer to His promise of Revelation 3:10. “Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.”)
This key event corresponds with and precedes:
- The casting out of satan from the heavens associated with this earth, down to the Earth.
- The abomination of desolation [Matthew 24:15-24] which prompts the woman fleeing“… into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and three score days.” [Revelation 12:14] This is the same timeframe wherein satan pursues and greatly persecutes all those remaining on the earth that have the testimony of Jesus Christ as well, seen in verse 17.
This period of 3 ½ years being that “short time,” (Revelation 12:12) that of the last 3 ½ years of the Great Tribulation, Jacob’s Trouble, wherein we also discover the spiritual confederation and conspiracy of this time in Revelation 13:5 with Psalm 83:1-5. It is the exact and same length of time of the beast’s power; typed by the ancient king of Assyria by Isaiah for us “Ho, Assyria, the rod of My anger,” [Isaiah 10:5] and his allotted time on the Earth. Wherein we are told upon the completion of the certain appointed consumption (Isaiah 10:22,23) on Israel in the days of vengeance. Then in the Day of Vengeance Jesus removes him from his power. [Revelation 19:20, Isaiah 14:25]
At which time all things written, that the Lord referred to in Luke 21, will be accomplished. In the treading down of Jerusalem, of Revelation 11, are those days of the Anti-Christ’s betrayal of the Jews’ confidence and their immediate great persecution following, will continue on without stop until those 3 ½ years are complete. All precipitate the state of last days Israel and their crying out to God. Isaiah 64:6: “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up hisself to take hold of thee; for thou hast hid thy face fro us, and hast consumed us,, because of our iniquities. But now, O Lord…. Be not wroth very sore, O Lord, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people. Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste. Wilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O Lord? Wilt thou wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?”
The final issue of the vial judgments foretold in Revelation 15 & 16 will be toward the very end of the days of vengeance, which will be rendered to the adversaries and enemies of God as a divine avenging of the blood of His servants. And this vengeance will, according to the song of Moses, “make expiation for His land, for His people.” [Deuteronomy 32:43 with Revelation 6:10,15:3] This is explained by Genesis 9:5,6 and Numbers 35: 32, 33: “…blood, it polluteth the land; and no expiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.”
Therefore, the expiation for the land here in view was not made by the blood of Christ shed on the cross, but to the blood Christ will justly and righteously shed. Both in the days of vengeance and finally and completely in the Day of His Vengeance, in the vintage winepress of God’s Wrath. These final days of vengeance, with its climax in the Day of Vengeance, then answers to the blood of all God’s servants; past, presently and in these future days of Jacob’s Trouble. Those who will yet greatly pursue and shed the blood of God’s servants are in view.
This “righteous judgment” will atone for the land defiled by the violence done in it and the Earth and will lead directly to the restoration of Israel. “And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.” [Luke 21:27 with Zechariah 12:9,10 and Zechariah 13:1] And the Words of Isaiah 64:4 will begin to have their greater meaning manifest. “For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.”
These Words Paul expounded on the meaning for us in 1 Corinthians 2:9-13. (Read.) That being that which is being unfolded to us this very day in our ears. “God hath revealed unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.…that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
