ISAIAH’S END-TIME TIMELINE
Isaiah’s End-time Timeline Chapter 55
THE SURE MERCIES OF DAVID
Galatians 4:22-27, Hebrews 3:1, 11:10,16, 12:22, Revelation 21-22
Overlaying Isaiah 55 with Revelation 22
Verse 1 is an invitation to ALL who have a spiritual thirst and hunger to come and be satisfied by buying without money.
Verse 2 speaks to the vanity of laboring (especially religiously) in life for that which does not satisfy. It is declared that there is an alternative by diligently harkening; that leads to the flourishing of our being. [John 6:26,27,35,53, Matthew 11:28 with John 7:37-39]
Verse 3 declares the meaning of harkening: the coming unto the Lord, and hearing and heeding, in order that your soul may be “saved”, (1Peter 1:9) resulting in a promised everlasting covenant. This personal promise is as sure as the covenant in the sure mercies of David. [2 Samuel 7:8-16, 2 Chronicles 7:18, Revelation 22:16]
Verse 4 is an allusion to that promised Seed of King David, the Messiah, Jesus the Christ.
Verse 5 declares the inclusion of the Gentiles in the call. [Matthew 21:43 with Acts 15:14] And the “for he hath glorified thee” answers to His resurrection; out from among the dead; to then be the appointed glorified Commander. [Psalms 16:9-10 2:6,7]
Verse 6 reveals there is a limited time to the invitation to draw nigh.
Verse 7 The call of repentance, through the Lord, is the drawing nigh unto the Father, now in this age of Mercy and Grace.
Verse 8 His Salvation Plan and purposes goes far beyond the general religious thoughts and ways.
Verse 9 In comparisons, they are as far apart as the heavens are from the earth.
Verse 10 & 11 God gives a beautiful analogy of His Word going forth out of His Mouth and the sureness of accomplishing His intent and purpose.
Verse 12 & 13 His intent and purpose being the future glorious state of these; the harkening and thereby covenanted people, resulting in the final restoration and rejoicing of all Creation.
Compare with REVELATION 22:10-21. “And he saith to me, “Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the season is near: He that committeth injustice, let him commit injustice still: and the filthy, let him be filthy still: and the just, let him do righteousness still: and the holy, let him be sanctified still. Behold, I come quickly: and my reward is with me, to render to each as his work is.
I am the Alpha and the Omega the first and the last, beginning and end, blessed are they that do his commandments (literally; wash their robes), that they may have a right to the tree of life (literally; their power may be over the tree,) and may enter in at the portals into the city. Outside are dogs, and sorcerers, and fornicators, and murderers, and idolaters, and every one who loveth and maketh a lie. I Jesus sent mine angel to testify these things to you in the churches I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright and morning star. And the Spirit and the Bride say, come thou! And let him that heareth say Come thou! And let the thirsty one come! Whosoever wishes, let him take the water of life without price. I testify to every one that heareth the sayings of the prophecy of this book, If any add to these things, God shall add to him the plagues that are written in this book. An if any take away from the sayings of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his portion from the tree of life, and our of the holy city, which are written of in this book, Saith he who testifies these things, Yes, I come quickly Amen. (And John passionately writes…..) Come Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen.”
God’s Word in Isaiah is sealed to Israel but is unsealed in the Book of Revelation to those saints, in this season, who hear and harken. Let the light of the Book of Revelation shine on Isaiah’s Words with other Words of Christ, and its meaning will be clear. For the Word is unsealed, as the Messiah has been manifest. It is the time of the end…. (“Go thy way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.”)
Much of the words of the prophets were sealed up in previous dispensations, but in this, now the Mystery of God is to be revealed. Christ has come and now invites us, who would be His followers and share in His glory, to come, and draw nigh unto the Father through Him.
The words of Isaiah remain sealed to the Jews even after the Coming of the Lord because of judgment. [See Matthew 12 & 13]
LET US MAKE NO MISTAKE. THE WORDS BEFORE US ARE OPENED AND UNSEALED BY GOD TO EXPRESS HIS MIND AS TO WHAT IS AT STAKE. AND TO PRESENT TO US THE TREMENDOUS VIEW OF THE FUTURE, IN ORDER TO GIVE US THE GREATEST OF INCENTIVES AND MOTIVES UNTO HOLINESS. AND FOR THE REJECTION OF VAIN LIES, IN THE ACCEPTANCE OF HIS CALL. TO HARKEN, TO HEAR, AND TO DRAW NIGH UNTO HIM WHILE HE IS YET NEAR.
Isaiah 55 is declaring, “He is the rewarder of those that diligently seek Him.” [Hebrews 11:6]
His first reward to those who harken unto His Word and wash their robes is the first resurrection glory and a place in the temporary residence in the 1st heaven’s Tabernacle, in the Millennial reign of King Jesus. [Revelation 20:4-6]
His second reward is the eternal reward of glory, and their right to enter at will through the portals into their permanent residence in New Jerusalem; wherein is found the further promised reward; as partakers of the tree and river of life.
It is clear in these verses, along with those of the previous chapter, that there is a defining of groups or classes: Those whose inheritance is in the heavenly sphere, and those who are outside, within the earthly sphere.
The tree of life, both its fruits and leaves, belong to the citizens of the heavenly New Jerusalem, while they may give the leaves to the earthly nations. The fruits of the tree of life are now their food, and the waters of the river of life are now their drink. [Revelation 22:17 & 21:6,7 answers to Isaiah 55:1,2] The great blessing of this Book is for: “….he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.” That is to say in this day of His extended patience, mercy and grace, in the power of the Holy Spirit, the promises and threats, mixed with love and faith, will surely affect our character and conduct. This answers to Isaiah 55 verse 6: “…..call upon him while he is near:…” before “…His enemies be made His footstool.”
“For without are dogs.…” goes with, “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs.…” This defines the residence of the holy kings and priests from the nations, and from the unholy. Outside the Garden are cast the fallen. Sodom and Gomorrah were near Jerusalem, as was Tophet. So is the sea of the brazen laver just outside the holiest place. The second death/the Lake of Fire appears now to be located upon the New Earth just below the heavenly New Jerusalem. [Revelation 22:15 with 21:8 and 27 and Isaiah 52:1 and 66:22-24]
Jesus Christ takes here to Himself two titles in relation to David. He is the “root” and the “offspring” of that ancient king of Israel. “Offspring” in that He was the descendent of his race, tribe, and family, and heir to his throne: “….and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” [Luke 1:32,33] With…. “Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel.” [2 Timothy 2:8] And then as “the root of David”, it is understood that Jesus existed before David was born. [John 8:55-59] And as the Son of God was the Creator of David, thus He was both the Son of David and Lord of David. [Psalms 110:1] As David’s offspring, he reigns on David’s throne in earthly Jerusalem. As His root, He will dwell in the eternal New Jerusalem and sit on the Throne of God. “The Lord hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn form it; of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.” [Psalm 132:11]
And in Psalms 89, read verses:3,4,19,20,27,29,34-37. The fuller explanation is found in Acts 13:21-52. Read. These Scriptures all answer to Isaiah 55:3, 4 & 5. “And the Spirit and the Bride say, Come!” This is their call together for Christ as the Morning Star to appear; to Come unto His own, and bring the day of Joy to this His Kingdom.
In the first place, Isaiah 55:10,11 has Jesus Christ; the Word of God in view. [John1:14, Philippians 2:7, John17:17] And in the 2nd place, “…the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father”. [John 15:26]
The Holy Spirit came down at Pentecost as the result of Jesus’ prayer and Atonement, that the Holy Spirit’s power might be not only with us but in us. [John 14:17] That He might prepare a spiritual Bride for Christ. The Holy Spirit then has descended, and along with the Word, are like the early rain of Spring that watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud and shall accomplish that which God intended, and He shall prosper in the thing whereto He was sent. (For Isaiah 55:12,13 see also Hebrews 6 for the type found in creation for both the positive and negative outcome, material and spiritual applications, also Romans 8:22)
“And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” This is the natural response of the one who has heard and harkened. At first he was called to come, but now it is the delight of the soul in the fatness of what the Word and Spirit has accomplished. The holy affections are rightly drawn out after the Bridegroom, to Come. “He that wisheth, let him take the water of life without cost.” This water, while He is away, and we are physical, is spiritual. But when He has Come, and we are spiritual by the resurrection, and have access to the New Jerusalem, which is material, and as the structure, so is the tree and water.
But not all hearers are harkeners. There are those who received the gift of His Righteousness and refused the prize for their righteousness, in that they preferred and retained their uncleanness and refused to wash their robes in the additional 2nd grace and mercy afforded in the Atonement. These are the sleepy, unwatchful, unfruitful; those of the Laodicean spirit. These are threatened with the plagues of this book. These are they who may have their part in the book of life and the city and the promises of this book taken away. It shows through the threat of deprivations, that they are material realities not to be spiritualized away.
Here there is threat not only for the loss of the first resurrection and millennial glory, but after the 2nd resurrection, the loss of any access to the city. As well as the loss of the numerous promises held forth to the Overcomer. This answers to Isaiah 55: verse 7.
KING DAVID AND OTHER TYPES of God’s Salvation plan:
Every man passes through the dispensations of the Earth; the dispensation of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The first three Kings of Israel reveal the progression of God’s salvation plan. In Saul we see the nature of every man; fallen and carnal. Which is reflective of the dispensation of the Father, through which every man must pass. And that being before the Son’s dispensation, of which David is a type. And then following is the dispensation or time of the Holy Spirit, seen in Solomon.
Saul types the character of the fallen, and the carnal flesh ruled. While David (beloved of the Lord) types: First, the Lord Jesus and also the regenerate/born again sincere Christian. And Solomon (which means peace) types the Holy Spirit; also a type for the Spirit-baptized and sanctified son of God: A deeper work, accompanying a deeper intimacy than just merely justification and rebirth grace. Thus, we may see the progression of God’s salvation plan in these kings fallen, regenerated, and then the second work of grace at Pentecost. [Acts 2:1-4]
Seen from another perspective, the nation of Israel is currently like unto Saul in character. They shall behold the Lord Jesus their Messiah, and become like David in character. And finally Joel declares they shall be like that typed in Solomon, in that they shall receive the Holy Spirit Baptism and then rule in the Earthly Kingdom. Additionally, we may see end-time Israel like Saul, with the Spirit of God now departed, and the “Giant”, the anti-Christ, has come out against him with great blasphemies of his Ruler. Who he now greatly fears being subject to. Then Jesus Christ, typed by David, descends single-handedly upon the enemies of Israel and of God, and He destroys the Giant and his armies. Thereafter, as in the type, Christ is declared King and Ruler over the Kingdom.
And then Jonathan is a type for the Christian who is unwilling to suffer with the King. He therefore could not rule with Him. That they loved each other greatly; that their souls bonded; speaks to the first grace both had partaken of. (Merely regenerated.) And so it shall be, that David and only those willing to suffer with Him (Romans 8:17) in His rejection, both in love and faith, will rule with Him in glory. Whereas those who choose the house of their father, the World, are excluded from co-ruling.
Interestingly, as the name David means, “beloved of the Lord”, Jonathan means, “the gift of God.” Wherein we see by choice one will stand in the “gift of God’, eternal life, while the other, who not only confessed his allegiance but entered into the sufferings of his rejected king, becomes “beloved of the Lord”. And when the King comes into His Kingdom, he will attain unto the prize, and will rule and reign with Christ forever, through the Millennium and into the New Jerusalem.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO NOTE that in regeneration it was never intended by God that by war or growth in that gift-that man should crucify the carnal part of his soul nature. This is typed by David’s approach to Saul. But God has ordained by a further work for the salvation of the soul, in the destroying of the works of the flesh. Therefore the merely born again man who then expects gradually or suddenly to overcome the flesh, shall surely fail. As it is not in regeneration that we may overcome. The overcoming of the carnal nature has been appointed through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire. [Matthew 3:11] Which belongs to the subsequent/ following major grace/Divine influence. Therefore David never slew Saul.
Solomon (peace) is the type for the dispensation of the Holy Spirit. The 3rd dispensation, that every sanctified soul must participate in, and through unto perfect peace. [Isaiah 26:3] And to more fully display the sanctified anti-type, God also named him, “Jedidiah”. This means, also as “David”, “the beloved of the Lord”. The double inheritance: “….let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.” [2nd Kings 2:9] This the Spirit of regeneration seen in the first grace. And the Holy Spirit Baptism seen in the second grace. Typical of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is Solomon’s request for wisdom. [1 Kings 3:9] A Wisdom that excelled all “men” was given. [1 Kings 3:12] This answers to Isaiah 55 verses 8 & 9 and Acts 1:5,8. That power of the Holy Spirit unto the wisdom and comprehension of God in Scripture, leading unto deeper intimacy, light and character work. See the marked difference related in Scripture in the disciples. [1 John 2:27, John 14:26, John 16:13]
It can also be understood that the great apostasy of Solomon, in the latter days of his life, can be seen to represent the Great Apostasy of the Last Days’ Church. [Matthew 24:12, 2 Timothy 3:1-5, Revelation 3:14-18] Paul said: “Let no man deceive you, by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first.” [2nd Thessalonians 2:3] [CLICK LINK TO DOWNLOAD NOTES]
