Having spoke of the duality of Gods Salvation plan, in that He has two peoples, both being discovered in the Promise to Abraham, quite different one from the other. And that which separates them chiefly is the acceptance of the Messiah Jesus Christ. And correspondingly, there are differences in Covenants based upon different principles of holiness. The Mosaic Law Covenant, with justice being its principle and Grace (i.e. Gods influence upon the heart by the Holy Spirit) being the principle of the other. The one has an earthly calling; the other a heavenly calling (Hebrews 3:1). Their standing before God is different, their destinies are different. They have different promises with different sanctuaries, services, rites and priesthoods. The Old skin suits the Old Covenant wine but Christ puts the wine of the New Covenant in new skins. If we are to mix the New Wine in the Old Skins, we would ruin them both. But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved. Both Covenants: the Old Mosaic and the New Covenant in Christ stand alone, independent from each other.

Now all men are born under the Law of God, that being the law of the Garden of Eden, as all men are born into Adam as his seed. And therefore all men are subject to his cursing for disobedience of that Law; that being physical and spiritual death.

We men of Adam have received by faith, Christ Jesus the 2nd Adam, Who, being the Seed of God, was not born under the Law of Adam. But He was on the 8th day circumcised under the Law of Moses and in His 33rd year falsely crucified under its Law, being unworthy of death, being resurrected by God, Who thereby destroyed the works of the devil, and fulfilled or brought to completion that part of the ancient Written Torah. And He was appointed Redeemer of all mankind. All who then receive Him by faith as Saviour are thereby enlisted in the Covenant of Grace and are free from that Law of the curse of spiritual death inherent from the Garden Law (Romans 5:8-21), having their spirits regenerated unto eternal life. And additionally, being also free from any obligation to keep the Mosaic Law and thereby free from its curse (Galatians 2:19, 3:6-14). Christs commands are now our Law (Galatians 6:2) “…for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. [Matthew 23:8]

CHARACTERISTICS, PURPOSE, AND FUNCTION OF THE MOSAIC LAW

* They were given to the 12 tribes of Israel. They are the only ones to whom they were given (albeit the whole of mankind have benefited from them).

* Observance of the Mosaic Law would allow Israel to realize the blessings of the Abrahamic Covenant (that which Christ fulfilled/completed). For obedience there would be blessings (the fullness of Christ received), and for disobedience, cursing (Deuteronomy 28-30).

* The Mosaic Law is administered in the letterwhereas in contrast the Gospel of Jesus Christ is ministered in the spirit. Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. [2nd Corinthians 3:6]

  • Nevertheless  The law (of Moses) is holy, and the commandment is holy and just, good. .We know that the law is spiritual.[Romans 7:12,14]

However, the Law of Moses, and its demand for ridged observance unto righteousness is to be temporary, as comprehended in Romans 7:1-6 where, the Mosaic Law is typed as the strict unyielding first husband, having guided and revealed his wife into the knowledge of her woeful and justly condemned state. .The wife wishing to be set free from her most impossible state associated with her marriage, impossible in that her condemning husband shall never diebut lo and behold she now passes away (so it is seen that the principal of Law is that it holds one until death, and is typical and symbolic in baptismal submersion (Romans 6:34). She has died, completely freeing her from her first husband and she now takes the Messiah as her new husband (no spiritual polygamy), as she rises from the deadin newness of life, completely free from the condemnation of her first husband, now in the New Covenant grace of Christ . Shes under “…a better covenant, (abundant grace and mercy) which was established upon better promises.(Romans 7:1-14 with Hebrews 8:6b) The Law of Moses was never intended to continue to rule over the wife, in that He could neither justify her nor sanctify her, a work only to be done by the Spirit of her new husband (John 7:37-39) It could only school her in her in her great need, that the Messiah alone could provide, and after having received Him by faith, and born again in spirit, she entered into a New Covenant to be Spirit/spirit led. The Bride of Christ is now to be brought from an unqualified child to a mature son fit to rule with Jesus Christ (2nd Corinthians 3:1-18, Galatians 3:22-4:7).

* The Mosaic Law was/is weak in the purpose of effecting holiness in its followers, as it is dependent on mans abilities, and unable to grant aid of the Holy Spirit. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [Romans 8:34]

*The Decalogue or Moses Law is not designed or meant for the Believer in Christ, as it can neither justify or sanctify him. (That the Law cannot justify any that are under it is a well known religious fact to Christendom as a whole; but many of them think that some parts of it, particularly the moral part, should be a Christians rule for lifeand their blessings are contingent upon keeping it. But Paul nor Scripture never divides it in parts, and stands firmly against it. (Read 1st Timothy 1-19.) Paul states that the New Testament charge is love and faith in good conscience, and that some Christians had wandered away from this truth and have become incompetent Mosaic Law teachers, making affirmations about the application of the Law of Moses in regard to the New Covenant not knowing what they are talking about. See verse 7. Desiring to be teachers of the law (of Moses) understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. (That is, they state as fact and strongly and publicly assert.) Paul declares they are Guilty of using the Law unlawfully. He says,But we know the law is good, if a man use it lawfully (that is for its intended purpose); Knowing this, (as a matter of great importance) that the law (of Moses) is not made for a righteous man, (the implication is that those selfprofessed teachers were wrongly applying the Mosaic Law to believers in Christ) but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly…” When taught correctly, the Law of Moses has served its lawful purpose, it has directed us, the ungodly, to Christ. And once having been justified by faith, and receiving the imputed righteousness of Christ, the Law of Moses is not designed for now leading Christ followers into sanctification. And these teachers who affirm that now that they are made righteous by faith in Christ, but say they must now follow or keep the Law of Moses unto sanctification, are using the Law unlawfully.

The Law of Moses, effectively, not explicitly, condemns and kills. The commandment (in the Law of Moses), which was ordained unto life (meaning that if it could be kept it would bring newness of life) I found to be unto death. For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.[Romans 7:10-11 And once one recognizes that the Atonement of Christ answers to this unexpected effected death, the futility, the impossibility of keeping the Law of Moses unto holy acceptance with God in ones own limited religious abilities, then the Law of Moses has done its appointed job, its purpose. Being slain, that is to say humble and grateful, I am then in a prepared state to receive the grace in the Atonement of Christ.

Those who persist in trying to keep the Law of Moses, who continue to stare into it as opposed to the beholding himself in the perfect law of liberty (James 1:25) will find instead of it sanctifying them, will continue to stir up the corruption of the fallen nature, for the Law of Moses is the strength of sin. (1st Corinthians 15:56)

How is the Justified (born-again) Christian to be sanctified? By the opposite of the Law of Moses; by faith in Christ.  See Acts 26:13-28.“….that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.There is no Scriptural basis for keeping the Law of Moses in faith. Quite the contrary, it is based on a different principal, as the Scriptures always set the Law of Moses against faith. And the (keeping of the) law (of Moses) is not of faith; (and therefore unpleasing to God Hebrews 11:6)  but the man that doeth those things (contrary to Gods now revealed Will) shall (be bound to continue in his futile attempts to) live in them (a command in futile service with the intent to yet bring Christs Atonement in view). (Deuteronomy 27:26, Galatians 3:12)

The keeping of the Law of Moses is the opposite of faith. We can only obtain sonship and please God when we are wholly in/under Christ in the sole guidance of the  Spirit. God has not given us leave that we can be both in Christ and under Moses in the Spirit. As one genders to the flesh and one to the spirit, as Galatians 5:1-18 expresses the opposition of the two most strongly (please read).

To walk as a Christ follower with one foot in the Law of Christ and one foot in the Law of Moses is to void them both from their purpose. They look to the Law of Moses for their Sanctification but when they stumble in the Law of Moses they appeal to the Law of Christ?!? A law that has no recourse is no law at all. So it is that they make the Law of Moses void by faith.the opposite of what Faith in Christ actually does. Do we then make law void through faith? God forbid: yea we establish law (in its rightful place and purposes). [Romans 3:31] How? By complete separation from the Law of Moses, wholly out from under its demands, in that it made its demands and is paid all that it was due. We are able to move on under the Law of Liberty in Christ unto its promises and threats and the Law of Moses is able to move on in the validity of all its demands, threats and curses unto all that are under it. To clearly define the Covenants, Justice is the foundational principle under the Law of Moses, and Grace with Mercy being the foundational principle under the Law of Christ.

We may not have dual citizenship, and appeal to the Law of either Country as it suits our need. This principal can be understood by the illustration of a United States citizen, having become a citizen of England, is now no longer subject to the Laws of the United States. Regardless that the moral principals that are underlying the two different countries are the same, or that some of the Laws of the United States are similar to those of the England, this in no way relieves him of his exclusive responsibility to the Nation he is now a citizen of. So the believing Jew, and the believing Gentile, having left the citizenship of their former Country/Nation have become citizens of the New Man. Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God.…”  (Ephesians 2)

  • Saying it again, the Mosaic Law is understood to encompass MORAL, GOVERNMENTAL, AND RELIGIOUS LAW. But all are mens terms, as no such divisions are referred to in Scripture as the Law of Moses is presented as a unified term, the sum total of 613 Mitzvahs or commandments. It is collectively and inseparably a Covenant given to Israel by Moses and now having been filled with meaning by Christ the Messiah, it is set aside, that is to say as a guide or means unto attaining righteousness/holiness. This is the heavenly Kingdom message introduced by Christ in Matthew chapters 5-7. Where He owns the significance of the Law of Moses and all the Prophets, in declaring that nothing Written in it would pass away till all be fulfilled or filled with meaning as completed. Christ further speaks and expounds and supersedes Moses Law, primarily on morals. Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, (by stating it this way, Christs quoting of Moses Law yet left the door open to preMoses Law as well). Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you.”  in that now Jesus sets forth a new standard of holiness as required for the Kingdom of heavens inheritance. That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. The Mosaic system for righteousness/holiness is here pronounced inadequate, and is thereby effectively done away with or set aside as Paul declares explicitly in 2nd Corinthians 3:6-18. Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, (as explained in Romans 7) but the spirit giveth life (the New Covenant of Romans 8). But if the ministration of death written and engraven in stones, (the 10 commandments being in clear view) was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious. Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not steadfastly look to the end of that which is abolished.  The old letter that brings condemnation, once found effective in the heart, is abolished to make way for the new,  glorious life in the power of the Holy Spirit. The passing away of the old system affords one the opportunity to go beyond the mere “…sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh to avail themselves of the greater opportunity exclusive in the new; the sanctifying of the soul through the purging of the conscience. (Hebrews 9:13,14 10:39)

The Law of Moses, with the efficacy of the blood of certain animals was sufficient unto the sanctifying of the flesh, whereas the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus is the result of that greater efficacy of His Own Blood, unto the sanctifying of the soul. It is that which goes beyond forgiveness and a mere atonement covering, unto a deep purging by the Spirit; by the New Covenant Word applied to the conscience to develop Christ-like character. The one having the covering of the flesh in view, while the other has the crucifying and burying of the flesh in view. The one has service on the earth in view the other has service in the heavens in view.

That Christians are not under the rule of the Mosaic Law is one of the main emphases of the New Covenant (Romans 6:14, 7:1-14 Galatians 3:10-13, 24-25; 4:21, 5:1,13; 2nd Corinthians 3:7-18). But there are some groups who yet insist that the Christian is obligated to the Mosaic Law, at the very least to its moral law set forth first in the 10 Commandments. And that once we are justified in Christ the Mosaic Law remains our standard for living in Christ. Some teach that the Ceremonial and Governmental has been fulfilled in Christ, and as fulfilled, it has passed away, yet hold that the moral portion of the Mosaic Law still dictates our behavior in Christ and that unto our sanctification in worthiness and favor with God. Some state and defend that neither the moral or the ceremonial have passed or have been abolished. And they site Paul as an example in that he kept certain ceremonial laws that they refer to as proof of its continuity.

Let us look at Scripture as to how Paul really contended from several different examples. First from Acts 15, where in the 1st through the 3rd verse we have Paul and Barnabas in great dissension and dispute against other Jewish believers in Christ, who insisted that the new Gentile converts be circumcised after the manner of Moses, and keep the Law of Moses, or they could not be saved.  Which Paul had always contended with. Having determined to put their dispute before the council of elders and apostles, they gathered in Jerusalem, where both sides put forth their arguments, and after much disputing Peter rose and reasoned that since God had advanced the Gospel to them (the Gentiles) and “… gave them the Holy Spirit, even as he did us: And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

This is contrary to some who have taught that James, who gave a further determination, incorporated a strategy that would keep the Gentile believer in fellowship with the non-believing Jew, and teachers of Moses Law until such time that they might be more acquainted with the Law of Moses and thereby becoming observant over time with further instruction. But contrary to this teaching, James by the Holy Spirit wisely directed the Gentile believer and the Messianic believer in a manner that would not conflict with their own fellowship. All the while being as nonconfrontational as possible for both of them with the non-believing Jew. As well as cause the new Gentile believer in Christ to hold forth a New Covenant standard of moral conduct that would, by practice, naturally separate them from the prevalent practices of heathen idolatry prevalent at the time.

NO opportunity was taken here in the mentioning of keeping the Mosaic Law (not even the keeping of the Sabbath) here by either Peter, or Paul or James or Barnabas. On the contrary, the Letter composed by the Apostles reads: Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law (of Moses): to whom we gave no such commandment: It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth. For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well, Fare ye well.  Nothing should be construed by any as a directive that Christians should keep the Law of Moses.

Another example of Pauls doctrine against the keeping of the Mosaic Law is his rebuke of Peter in Galatians 2. If the doctrine of the council of Acts 15 was to infer that the Law of Moses is taught everywhere and so although we are not going to insist upon the observance of the Mosaic Covenant to begin with, since they will get it and conform to it as a result of that teaching influence locally. For if that was the case, what was Pauls reasoning when he rebuked Peter and others at the expense of the Mosaic Law, declaring that what they did, in the observance of Mosaic Law was going against ..the truth of the gospel  Going on to rebuke and correct them from any Mosaic Lawkeeping, Paul further said: Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law (of Moses), but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law (of Moses): for by the works of the law (of Moses) shall no — flesh be justified. Now if Paul was in any way, in doctrine or living, promoting keeping the Mosaic Law at the expense of the Gospel of Christ, Peter might have had occasion to argue. why do you Paul correct me for the keeping of the Mosaic meats laws, when you yourself teach and keep the 10 commandments, with the keeping of the Sabbath, the Nasserite vow, the feasts of the LORD and circumcision?

And if Paul was so inclined towards teaching of the keeping of the Law of Moses, then instead of being astonished at the Galatian believers departure from faith in the Spirit of Christ, the nature of the entire Epistle would have changed, becoming an Epistle of congratulations and apology for not having introduced the Mosaic Law sooner to them, into the system to now be made perfect. That is, in their sanctification after having begun in the Spirit,  the New Covenant justification in which he had previously led them. Henceforth Paul would have been challenged in the Epistle to teach what parts they should keep and those parts that were obsolete. NO! Pauls doctrine and way of life declared: It is Christ or it is Moses. All of one and none of the other. Wherefore the law became our schoolmaster up to Christ that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. Where is the mention of an exception for keeping all or even part of the Law of Moses?

We are no longer in Adam nor are we under Moses but in Christ. From slaves to servants to sons. The Law of Moses is but concerned with the life while on Earth, whereas the Law of Christ is concerned about the resurrected life. Another example of Pauls doctrine compares the Law keeping Jews to Hagar (Galatians 4:21-5:4) Are we, as the supernatural promised son, to be sent to suckle at the breast of Hagar? No says Paul, we are to cast out the bond woman and her son for they will have no inheritance in the promised sons inheritance (here again it is made clear the duality of GodsSalvation Plan of two peoples). The Son of promise, and His Bride, will have their distinct heritage apart from Israels.

Again, it would seem that keeping the Law of Moses would be somewhere interwoven as an exception in their distinction but none may be found. That is because there is no exception for the keeping of the Law of Moses in their distinction allowed by God. If one point was to be yielded, or a Christian was obligated to any part of the Mosaic Law then as the Spirit has already proclaimed: “… CURSED IS EVERY ONE THAT CONTINUETH NOT IN ALL THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW TO DO THEM. [Galatians 3:10] As both systems work on different principles and can NOT be mingled.

There should be a clear distinction in New Covenant speak / teaching that to observethe Law of Moses is not the same as to keep the Law of Moses. To study the Law of Moses and to learn from it, to lay it beside the Truth of the New Covenant as a standard of righteousness, to acknowledge its rightful historical relevance, its clear typing and shadowing of New Testament Truth, to acknowledge its prophetic significance, filled and unfilled, is not the same as promoting keeping it. For to promote the keeping of it to believers in Christ (many whose motives are understandable in that their thinking is that without it means to be lawlessness) is yet contrary to the will and salvation plan of God in  understanding its various purposes and methods. Some teach the Law of Moses as being obligatory in the New Covenant in order to become His Bride. Others propose a strict adherence, as far as possible, that in the doing, in the judgment day one will be found more acceptable to Him having kept the Law of Moses, as it is the exclusive means to blessing in the New Covenant both here and the hereafter. Some promote the keeping of allthe Law of Moses, and some just parts such as the moral laws.”

All forms of keepingthe Law of Moses are greatly displeasing unto God as they are.not rightly dividing the word of truth (they unwittingly become an obstacle to New Covenant Law unto holiness in the power of the Spirit). As to the greater part of the remaining mainstream in modern day Christendom, they have wrested the Scriptures on the meaning of abolishingof the Mosaic Law to mean that Jesus Christ has not only imputed a righteousness/holiness justification (with the rebirth of the spirit) that goes (beyond its Scriptural limits) to an imputed sanctification of the soul. This leaves no real necessity or standard of accountability, resulting in the antinomian doctrine of license, that disqualifies them from the promises of inheritance exclusive to overcomers of the flesh commanded by Jesus in the Gospel. It is a teaching common to the Apostle Johns day, which John gives clear enough rebuke. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. [1st John 1:1-2:6]

These have misused the Scriptures such as: Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost [Titus 3:5-6] Or Ephesians 2:89: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.  They have wrested these Scriptures beyond their limits; declaring that works have nothing to do with salvation in Christ, having little understanding of the fullness of Gods salvation plan; of the gift and the prize. They have centered up on that part of merely Justification, and have misappropriated the Scriptures to theirselves that reflect a sanctification work by the Spirit/spirit beyond justification, by claiming that this too is imputed in Christs Righteousness.

Having no understanding of the great prize of the heavenly calling and privilege afforded by worthiness to obtain unto the first resurrection associated with overcoming works of the believer, they having ignored or attempted to explain away the many dire warnings of sure exclusion from His heavenly Kingdom for unfaithfulness and un-watchfulness of His redeemed. “…but they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world and the resurrection from the dead. Luke 21 with Revelation 20:6 warn of being left to the 2nd resurrection. That First Resurrection being that which the great prayer of Paul in Philippians 3:11 had in view. If by any means I might attain unto the (first) resurrection (out from among) the dead.

Also see Revelation 22:12.And , behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”  The mention of works by His followers is at least 12 times referred to by Jesus in the first 3 chapters of Revelation. And James, who like Paul, declared faith without works is dead. They ignore all the dire warnings of disqualification to the Christians of Corinth and Galatia in 1st Corinthians 6:9-10; Galatians 5:19-21. Or Christs many warnings in Matthew 5-7 or in the many kingdom parables, or the first verses of John 15. Or the 5 great warnings to Christians within the Book of Hebrews. But if one is religiously blind, they are blind indeed.

Great is the significance of the issue as the stakes are eternal inheritance! The reality of being bewitched and falling from grace is the frightening depiction that Paul uses to those who would put themselves under the mastery of the Mosaic Law to finish the work begun in justification (not that justification came by the Law of Moses, as it cannot justify any man, but faith justifieth a man old or new covenant). In that having once been loosed, as was the Messianic, or free altogether from its dictates as a Gentile believer in Christ, that is to say from its yoke of bondage by the power of the Spirit of grace, the born again believer in Christ is now to pursue an overcoming life over the flesh nature according to the liberty and forgiveness realized solely in Christs Atonement, that newness of life, which is in faiths grasp (Romans 6).

The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus is that law which speaks on the one hand of no condemnation as it relates to justification unto eternal life, but on the other hand, sanctification, where there is no room for legalism or license, but certain Christ-like accountability with ramifications/condemnation in the inheritance of a glorious life. The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus.Hath set me free from the law of sin and death. That is to say not only assurance of eternal life, but in the means in pursuit of sanctification, that which has to do with eternal inheritance (Romans 8:1-18). There is no condemnation, that is to say no condemning word as it relates to justification. For it is a gift in the law of the Spirit. But if I am obligated unto the Law of Moses in pursuit of righteousness unto sanctification and the inheritance of the promises, there is condemnation with loss of inheritance. For in order to gain its righteousness, I must keep it in its entirety for which I am helpless to do, as I am fallen from grace (the Holy Spirits Divine influence upon my heart, the true and only means appointed unto sanctification).

THE IDEA THAT GENTILES ARE TO MAKE JEWS JEALOUS, AND THAT BY OBSERVANCE OF THE MOSAIC LAW IS NOT SCRIPTURAL IN THE LEAST. FIRST THE SCRIPTURES DECLARE THAT JEALOUSY PROMOTES; NOT EVANGELISM OR REPENTANCE ON THEIR PART, BUT ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURE, (See DEUTERONOMY 32:21) MOSES DECLARES GOD was PROVOKED TO ANGER. THAT WHICH AGREES WITH PAULS STATEMENT IN ROMANS 10:19. But I say, Did not Israel know? (know what? The gospel to the Gentiles, yes they knew/know but) First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you. The jealousy God refers to is prone to anger, not unto repentance or a means unto their conversion. But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people. This was Isaiahs indictment; that “…Hear ye indeed, but understand not: and see ye indeed, but perceive not.”  Till when will their hearts be hardened with jealous anger? “…until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved.…” so says Romans 11.
