HEBREWS 12:25-29 The Holy Spirit calls the Hebrew Christians to come completely out of Judaism. Out from Temple participation, out from its services, its feasts, its earthly blessings, even out from its City (Revelation 11:8). The out calling for modern day Christians can be also found in these passages and Book, but not so obvious.
- Christians today readily claim the loving grace of God in the Son’s Atonement offering, and are continually offering up thanksgiving for all the lofty promises of God in Christ. But they heartedly resist the idea of grace (divine influence) by obedience to Christ’s Commands. And some declare that any who would preach the dangers of resisting His Commandments as legalists, and virtual thieves of God’s loving grace. Religious blinders (Revelation 3:14-22) keep today’s Christian from seeing that the conduct expected and demanded by God in this Book of Hebrews is in answer to the loving grace of redemption, extended and received by them wholeheartedly in His Son’s Atonement sacrifice. That necessity of obedience for inheritance with Him is clearly intimated and clearly seen by those who have eyes to see, in Christ’s 7 epistles to the Church’s in Chapter’s 2 and 3 of the Book of Revelation and Matthew Chapters 5-7, ect.[Text Wrapping Break]
- In the resisting the proverbial knocks on the door of Christ’s New Testament Commands. Unleavened Christendom has been invaded, hijacked by satan; resulting in today’s Laodicean attitude (Matthew13:33) wherein Christ’s call of “..come out of her my people..” out of mystical Babylon as well as the literal Babylon of the last days,…is in some ways undoubtably comparable to the call of those ancient (and present day) Christians out of Judaism (Revelation 17 & 18).
THE LAST WARNING
VERSES 25-29 “See that ye refuse not him (The Son of GOD) that speaketh (of all the wondrous promises of heavenly kingdom privileges granted by the Father in Him Hebrews 1:2, 12:22-24). For if they (the ancient Israelites after having heard commands with promised earthly privileges) escaped not who refused him (The Son of God) that spake on earth (of the Covenant of Law with its penalties against disobedience; and that not in vain; as 3000 died for the breaking of the 1st and 2nd Commandments; also the Sabbath breaker was stoned, and the fiery serpents fate of those who joined themselves to Baal Peor Deuteronomy 4:3, ect), much more shall not we (as Christ followers have a chance of) escape (the sure judgment consequences for ignoring the Commands of conduct that He so greatly values; by simply professing His Loving grace), if we turn away from (obedience to) him (Jesus Who) speaketh from heaven: Whose voice then shook the earth (the earth only and that exclusive to mankind and Israel specific Exodus 19): but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven (Why? He must reward the obedient and punish the disobedient, in the process of restoration of all things, there must be the shaking and removing of all compromising materials which is in view Haggai 2:6 that which greatly includes the unseen realm wherein satan rules from, Isaiah 24:21 the heavens associated with this earth Revelation 6:12-17 with 12:7-10). And this (prophetic) word, Yet once more, signifieth (portends that 1000 years later of) the removing of those (contrary) things (permanently) that are (to be temporarily) shaken (in the great tribulation Matthew 24:29), as of things that are made (contrary by satan and fallen mankind Isaiah 14:14; 2 Corinthians 11:3), that those things which cannot be shaken (to be realized fully at the end of the Millennium Hebrews 10:13 with Isaiah 66:22) may remain forever (2 Peter 1:11).
Wherefore we receiving a (promised eternal heavenly) kingdom (verses 22-24 to be established in the righteousness of Christ during and after the Millennial Kingdom both in regard to men and angels) which cannot be moved, (that by the removal of the existing government of this World; angels, and replacing them with the victorious Son of God and Son of Man and His retinue/ Bride), let us (continue to) have (hold fast) grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: (that attitude commensurate with the need of further grace for our work; beyond the attitude of boldness in the gift of justification in His Work) For our God is a consuming fire (that attitude of fear and tremblingset against the modern day error of the attitude of presumption in over emphasizing God as Love).”
Thus the Author summarizes and restates the warning of Hebrews 10:26-31 and 2:3.
The contrast in honor and privileges received should be readily understood in that the blood of animals justified unto eternal life but allowed the Israelites but a restricted access to an earthly tabernacle and to a limited presence with an outward effect, with works for righteousness unto inheritance of the promises in view… (the principle behind the Law was for obtaining righteousness by obedience to it, none did (but some obtained by faith Habbakuk 2:4; Romans 4:5)… but Christ’s Blood allows entrance to God and unto the Throne of Grace in Heaven itself having obtained justification in His righteousness as a gift, through receiving by faith Jesus Christ’s Blood substitutionary Work. Looking now “ …to have (hold fast)…” grace; that divine influence upon the heart, that was obtained by faith in Christ’s Work, which now may be maintained by continually accessing the Throne of Grace in the developing of the principles in character; of serving not reigning in this life and extending mercy to others not judgment in justice. The holding fast to grace is the opposite of falling from grace (verse15 with Galatians 5:4). The holding fast and growing in grace unto a further inward effect upon the soul is God’s desire and Command; that of sons who have by their works developed Christlikeness (2 Corinthians 3:18; Hebrews 2:10). To this end, and by this means; of hearing and obeying Christ, which is the only effect means to an inward work, and ony acceptable service unto God and relates to the heavenly kingdom inheritance here in Hebrews 12 described (with 1 Peter 5:10).
As we are drawing close to the end of the Book of Hebrews, let us recall the theme: that of the heavenly kingdom calling (3:1). The loss of which forms the basis for the grand argument with its 5 warnings: as a result of behavior contrary to its attainment.
The first warning in Chapter 2 referred to as that so “great a Salvation;” the glory of the Gospel Covenant firstborn ruling in that kingdom from the heavens being realized in the first resurrection “…the world to come..”.
And again the loss of the heavenly kingdom is set forth in Chapters 3 & 4 in type as the promised land of Canaan lost by ancient Israel is presented as the Millennial Sabbath rest subject to loss by Christians who abide in unbelief / disobedience, that is refuse to follow the Word and go in and overcome the enemy. Chapter 6 warns those who refuse to move on to perfection or apostatize from Christ brings the sure loss of the heavenly kingdom promise and possibility of punishment. Chapter 10 enlarges on the offense of refusing the fullness of Christ’s Atonement grace unto faithful service, with not only the threat of loss of the heavenly kingdom inheritance; “…that great recompense of reward..” but correspondingly a fearful recompense of punishment from the Living God. Chapter 12 and the 5th warning; in full harmony with the others, threatens the loss of the heavenly kingdom and the impossibility of escape for obstinent disobedience.
And by way of review the HEAVENLY KINGDOM IS THE PREDOMINATE THEME OF THE ENTIRE BIBLE that is to say both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament…where modern day Christian teachers wrongly try to represent the message of God as predominantly the Gospel of saving (being born again) through grace. Their all-inclusive doctrines of cheap grace convolute the Scriptures complete harmony from Genesis to Revelation. Although eternal life by grace in Christ Jesus is scattered sparingly in the New Testament; the key message of the Gospel is the inheritance of the heavenly kingdom in resurrection glory as the Bride of Christ Jesus.
The New Testament revelation begins with John and then Christ offering the Israelites the “kingdom of the heavens” (Matthew 3:1; 4:17) and ends with that kingdom manifest in this realm (Revelation 11:15). The central message throughout the Gospels, the Book of Acts and the Epistles is not saved by grace but the fulfillment of God’s Salvation Plan in the restoration of all things; the inheritance of the heavenly kingdom; anticipated from Genesis 1:26-28 and moving forward in Scripture laying typical background and prophetic background throughout the Old Testament in the realization of that Plan to be fully revealed in the New Testament.
This “kingdom of heavens” Christ referred to is that kingdom from which Lucifer, appointed by God, once reigned over this realm; who then imagined to ascend above to the Throne of God (Isaiah 14:12-14), who then failing was relegated to this realm then fallen into judgment chaos as a consequence (Genesis 1:2a). The first Adam was a key part of Re-Creation of the chaotic earth in 6 days and was set in authority over it along with his bride, in the place of its previous God appointed ruler; Lucifer. Satan by deceiving Eve into rebellion, and then by Adam willingly following her, forfeited his rights of ruling in this recreated realm to satan. And it is from the “heavenly” part of this realm associated with this World that satan now rules over mankind on the earth (Ephesians 2:2; 2 Corinthians 4:4). The Reclaiming of this kingdom with its two realms; the heavenly and earthly, by the second and last Adam; the FirstBorn of God and His Bride is the thrust of all Scripture.
Israel was chosen out from the nations of the World to be peculiarly God’s firstborn son. Thereby was satan restricted from authority over Israel with Michael being appointed the Angelic overseer of the nation of Israel. Israel then was the only nation on the earth being “set apart” or saved that could potentially retake the authority lost by the first Adam and that only by the means of a faultless Messiah / the 2nd Adam; Jesus. And He being tempted by satan himself but yet remaining sinless, attained the right of God’s firstborn rulership in this realm as it related to God’s chosen nation of Israel, hence the offering of the kingdom of heavens to Israel, who as a people began to take that authority in the earth and over satan in Jesus Name (Matthew 10 and Luke 10).
Israel being “saved” by the means of the blood offerings *could then be moved towards the end goal of God…the restoration of all things with the reclamation of authority in this kingdom in its two realms, heavenly and earthly.
*Why had God continued to offer the kingdom inheritance for about 30 years after Christ was received as the Passover Lamb? Because after God had received Christ as the Passover Lamb in 33 A.D., from there after He rejected the vicarious substitution of the lambs blood as the means for redemption unto eternal life, but there was yet an entire generation of “saved” Jews (not Christians) by the blood of the substitutionary lambs to whom He could and would yet offer the heavenly kingdom through Christ’s Atonement. Redemption; their eternal life issue being accomplished in the blood of Passover lamb… they were entreated to partake in the goal of Gods salvation plan; eternal glory, to rule regally from the heavenly realm as the Eve of Christ. With the annulment of the blood sacrifice of the Law of Moses now there would be no other “saved” Jews to whom the further offer unto completion or perfection could be made, as it could no longer be extended to the future “unsaved”/ unredeemed Jews.
Those “saved” Jews, like the Disciples, at Pentecost or like Paul on the road to Damascus were, in the case of the Disciples; saved eternally Christians being granted the power to be further saved (brought into the potential of the fullness of Gods salvation plan beyond eternal life to that of heavenly kingdom glory)… ….and like Paul were saved Jews being granted the power to be fully saved …both parties equally eternally saved, but the baptism in power, commensurate only with Christ’s Atonement has the heavenly kingdom inheritance in view, not eternal life, as that issue had been dealt with by the substitutionary Blood/blood. These further conversions or infillings were made possible, as there was no other way, by the Blood and death Atonement of Christ “…having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear (Acts 2:14-39). This being the wisdom of God in the means unto man’s glory. This was the ruse of God… and that which if satan had known he would not of crucified the Lord of glory (1 Corinthians 2:7-8).
Signs, miracles and wonders were/are a product of validating the call of God to Israel in the heavenly kingdom, and again that was Christ’s Message from the beginning (Matthew 4:17), and signs, miracles and wonders were the authenticating means by which God validated the Words of His Messenger. They followed the message and Messenger of the heavenly kingdom offer to Israel. Both before; as He and His Disciples, and appointed ones performed confirming miracles to a degree in Israel like never before and again after Christ’s Crucifixion in the gracious reoffer of the heavenly kingdom being extended to Israel, as seen in the Book of Acts. But about 30 years later in A.D. 62 or 63 with the reoffer being also rejected by the redeemed/saved Jews, and with the passing of that last generation of “saved” Jews, the offer of the heavenly portion of Christ’s Kingdom was withdrawn (Acts 28:25-28), and so then the confirming miracles in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to which the Jew would look for as a sign ceased. It was at the end of this very unique and one time transitional period of A.D. – 62 A.D. that the Hebrew Christians received this Epistle in exhorting them to completely separate themselves from Judaism as the New Man recipients of the heavenly calling in Christ.
