THE REVELATION OF DANIEL
The Revelation of Daniel – OVERVIEW
THE BOOK OF DANIEL IN A NUTSHELL
OVERLAYING DANIEL ONTO REVELATION
Daniel chapter 2 gives us the pattern of 4 Gentile Empires over time until the 2nd Coming of Christ. What is revealed in Scripture is that Governmental Authority over the earth was given to Israel. Seen and typed in David and Solomon’s kingdoms, it has been withdrawn and given to the Gentile Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon. This begins “the time of the Gentiles”. That is to say until the rulership of the earth passes through time until the final Gentile Power rises and is then destroyed by the “stone”. The stone that is “cut out of the mountain without hands, and that brakes in pieces the iron the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold” at the time of the vengeance (Luke 21:20-28) of God, determined upon Israel and the nations of the earth. [Revelation 19:11-21]
The Book of Revelation from the 4th chapter to the 20th chapter and on deals primarily with the last 7 years of “the time of the Gentiles.” That is to say, with the last Gentile Empire, which is the ten toes of the colossal image mixed with clay and iron (democracy and autocratic rule). That corresponds with the 10 last day kings and Beast of Revelation 17. They are now shown to be united in the destruction of Rome and drunken, deluded, pretentious Christendom at the beginning of his (the Antichrist’s) reign.
In the seventh chapter of Daniel we are told more particulars about the four Gentile Empires. They are described as beasts, and how they are made use of during the entire period of the times of the Gentiles. The emphasis again is on the last worldwide Empire Beast who is “exceedingly dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass: which devoured…And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the others which came up….even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows. I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them….” These being again those 10 last day kings and beast represented in Revelation 17, united now in the pursuit and destruction of the saints. That is described in Revelation 12 in the persecuting the saints of God, “…the remnant of her seed, (both groups) which keep the commandments of God, AND have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” With Revelation 14:12:“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, AND the faith of Jesus.”
The eighth chapter of Daniel gives us special information respecting the second/Persian and third/Greek great Empires, and the final evil condition of the Gentile Age (that of the toes), under the domination of that “the little horn” then being magnified. “And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power…and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people…” This is to say the rise of the Anti-Christ, (Revelation 13:1-9 with Revelation 17:8-11) and the great tribulation of Jacob’s Trouble quickly following. This is time forewarned by Christ in Matthew 24:15-25. It is the time of THE Abomination of (bringing) desolation. “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” Further described by John in the Book of Revelation, is how the last beastly Gentile power is made use of in greatly oppressing the Jewish nation. This corresponds with the events of Revelation 11:1-2, that follow quickly after the interposed events of Revelation 12:1-10, 13:1-14, 14:1-5. And in the end of the Anti-Christ’s career, “…he shall stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.” No doubt the Anti-Christ has stood up against the Prince all along, but the prophetic words finally have in view the events of Revelation 19:11-21 with 2 Thessalonians 2:7-9.
The 9th chapter of Daniel lays out before us the beautiful promises of God to Israel in the Millennial Age after 70 weeks of years. The Seventy Sevens are divided into three periods: The first consists of 7 times 7 or 49 years in which the rebuilding of Jerusalem was accomplished. The 2nd consists of 62 weeks of 7 years or 434 years, that covers the period from the restoration of Jerusalem till Christ’s offering or being cut off. And the third period is the final week of 7 years left to be fulfilled, now suspended in an unmeasured gap of near 2000 years. “He, the Prince that shall come” is the Anti-Christ and “shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolator.” That pouring out on the Anti-Christ, the great destroyer, is the last of God’s Judgments, the Vials. And the target is God’s enemies. This is what comes into view in the 16th chapter of Revelation, climaxing in the destruction of literal city of Babylon at the close of the Anti-Christ’s reign, and concludes the 70th week of Daniel. After the expiration of seventy sevens of years, at the end of the last 7 years, shown here in the Book of Revelation, the greatest blessings would come upon Israel and Jerusalem. This would come via the Messiah’s intervention and the establishment of their New Covenant, the transgression finished, sins ended, iniquity pardoned through the great reconciliation in Christ. Then will be the 2nd outpouring of the Spirit, everlasting righteousness established, and the most Holy Place anointed [Daniel 9:24, Revelation chapter 20:4-6 with Hebrews 8:8-13 Ezekiel 36:22-28]
The Last 3 chapters of Daniel 10-12 should be read as one.
The 10th chapter reveals the unseen Angelic conflict in the heavens associated with this earth and mankind. This adds clarity in the understanding of the past and present and future conflict in the heavenly places, as satan the serpent and his angels are not yet cast out. And as they resisted the greater knowledge of the Word of God to Daniel, so they yet do to Christians, by every conceivable deception and falsehood.
The 11th chapter gives us details on the Anti-Christ’s victories and final defeat. He will dominate over the “glorious land” Israel, and set up his camp on the holy mountain. The Iron dominates “…and the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself…” as he goes out in victorious campaigns. But the clay in the form of the nations from the north and east rises up stealthily and shall swoop down on the Anti-Christ’s Great City of Babylon and ransack it, setting it on fire. Revelation 18 describes the event, as does Revelation 16:19. Daniel 11 relates it in verses 44,45 “But the tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy and utterly to make away many. And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him. So it is on his way to confront the rebellion and recover his possessions that he is determined to utterly make away many, including the Jews in Jerusalem. And for this purpose, he will gather together the greatest armed host which the world as ever seen. [Revelation 16:13,14; 19:19; 14:18-20; Zechariah 14:2,3]
Now verse 1 of chapter 12 is being completed. Verses 2 and 3 of Daniel 12 then relate it to be the time of the First Resurrection of all those that are Christ’s at His Coming. [Revelation 19:14 with 1st Corinthians 15:23 with Revelation 14:12-16] This is not the final resurrection as this does not take place for 1000 years. [Revelation 20:5]
Not surprisingly Daniel asks, “O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?” But he is consoled with the promise that “many shall be purified and made white and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand. Blessed is he that waiteth and cometh to the thousand, three hundred and five and thirty days. But go thou thy way till the end be, for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days”, i.e., of these days.
Who and what shall the wise understand? Those who seek the truth with open hearts, those who go to the Scriptures unbiased by denominational false teachings, will not allow their minds and bodies to be polarized to a lethargic lukewarm state. But in sincerity, they will search diligently themselves the truth of these topics. What the wise will discover is that the First Fruits are the faithful living rewarded at the time of the Great Temptation that will come upon all the earth. They will be those living faithfully at that time, caught up as the man-child just as the devil/serpent and his angels are cast down in answer to the promise of Revelation 3:10 seen in chapter 12:5 as the First Fruits. And then the First Fruits and the First Resurrection Harvest. The agricultural types of Revelation 14:1-5,12-16 then living faithfully coming up together with all the faithful dead from Sheol (that intermediate place for the dead) towards the very end of the Tribulation. Seen together in Revelation 7:9-17 15:2-4 and again in Revelation 19:6-9 as the Bride with Christ before His full Victorious 2nd Coming of Revelation 19:11-21.
These now incentivized by the Word of Prophecy and the fear of God are true recipients of the promise. “Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.” [Revelation 1:3]
