THE REVELATION OF DANIEL

The Revelation of Daniel Chapter 11

THE TIME OF THE ANTICHRIST’S REIGN

DANIEL CHAPTERS 10, 11 and 12 ARE TOGETHER ONE VISION AND PROPHECY.

It could have been 1 chapter with 79 verses. The overall theme is Great Warfare. The prophecy deals primarily with the great Desolator and the desolated. The Scriptural and historical type being toward the end of the 3rd Empire and the time of Antiochus Epiphanes and the Maccabees 175-164 BC. The anti-type being the end time 7 year Tribulation and the Anti-Christ rising to power just before the 2nd Coming of Christ.

There seems to be some debate as to the details and to what time frame is being spoken of and revealed in chapter 11. That is to say, whether the whole of the verses be exclusive to the times and events of that great villain Antiochus Epiphanies, or rather are written words of truth related specific to the end times, or both, is debatable. The debate centers only in what verses the focus shifts from the type to the anti-type, therefore the real relevance matters very little today. Let us understand that which the angel revealed as written  “…in the Scripture of truth.” [Daniel 10:21] Daniel 10:21 relates to what he had already referred to as “what shall befall thy people in the latter days, for yet the vision is for many days.” [Daniel 10:14] So that what was revealed to Daniel was not centered around the Great Warfare a few hundred years in the future, but they were concerned with those latter day events yet several thousand years in the future, that which just precedes the 2nd Coming of Jesus. The whole of the vision must be in harmony with the end times as prophetically presented to us throughout the New Testament.

Additionally, subscribing the vast majority of the words/verses of chapter 11 to the last of the last days would be in harmony with the structure of prophecy throughout the Book of Daniel. In chapter 2, nearly twice as much focus and detail are given to the fourth end time kingdom and its toes / end time kings (Revelation 17:10) than the previous 3 Gentile Empires. The whole chapter 7 is dedicated to the end times Anti-Christ/ the “little horn”. In chapter 8 a few verses (3-8) suffice for the near future, but from there 17 verses describe in much more detail the last days. Chapter 9 is the same; quickly passing over the present and near future, then the prophetic words of Daniel center up on the last days, where the final consummation is the focus. (As it is in all prophecy throughout Scripture.) So it is here in the eleventh chapter that much detail is at the end of this Age. Not the near future, as it would be if the vast majority of the verses were meant to predict and direct our attention to Antiochus.

The eleventh Chapter of Daniel, from the 5th verse, gives great detail as it relates to the future Great Warfare activities leading up to and including the Anti-Christ. Those verses can be seen more clearly in light of the Lord’s specific and implied references to them in Matthew 24; Luke 21. This is where He speaks to the events associated with the future End Times just preceding His Return. [Daniel 11:31; 12:9-12; Matthew 24:15] Christ warns and encourages the faithful inhabitants of Jerusalem at that future time to pray and flee, as those prophetic words of Daniel shall then be manifest. Those days He refers to as that Great Tribulation period just before His Return. [Matthew 24:27-30]

Those that shall see of Matthew 24 are then the “Many shall be purified…the wise shall understand…” of Daniel 12:10,11, 11:35 with Revelation 14:12, 13:10. Many of which will then have primarily understood because of the 3 ½ years of “testimony” of the two Witnesses, bringing their attention to these detailed prophecies of Old. [Daniel 11:33, Malachi 4:5]

And as their time closes, the Anti-Christ with great malice approaches Jerusalem. “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease…” [Daniel 9:27, 11:31, 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4] The midst of the week of 7 final years has arrived, as has the end of the testimony of the two Witnesses of Revelation 11:3-7. The two Witnesses, having been killed, are caught up, as so also the “…man child…  was caught up unto God……. And the woman fled into the wilderness.” [Revelation 12:5,6]

It is the time of Great Warfare that extends to the great assault of the first heaven above, directly associated with this World. Daniel 12:1 says, “AND at that time shall Michael stand up…” This being at the midpoint with that covenant of death, (Daniel 9:27 with Isaiah 28:15) that foreboding greatest time of trouble now immediate for God’s people. Where Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out.…called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth.…”

The the blasphemous little horn has risen. “And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.” The 2nd 3 ½ years has begun; the great “hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.” [Revelation 13:1-5, Revelation 3:10] Daniel 11:36 reveals that he now stands forth as “the king”, as now in these last 3 ½ years he exalts himself above all. (See verse 37.)

Seals 1-4 are now all opened. [Revelation 5:1-8]

The first 3 ½ years was wherein the 10 nation confederation and the Anti-Christ had “come to one mind”.  [Revelation 17:13, 17] That great deceiving religious harlot, the “…woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus” is no longer tolerated. She is destroyed by the beast who had carried her, and his 10 nation confederation. [Revelation 17] It is time to compel the rest of the World to own his authority.  It is the time now after the man child, the first fruits, are caught up. [Revelation 14:4] And the time that the 3 Angels are sent forth to proclaim the “fear God” gospel of patience necessary for enduring the ripening of the Harvest in the last 3 ½ yrs of this great temptation of persecution. [Daniel 11:35, Revelation 14:6-13 with 14:14-16 ,Matthew 24:13] Daniel 11:33,34,35 says that though they shall fall, “…they will be holpen with a little help…” Zechariah 14:1,2 will now be fulfilled. (In the end it will be established that the essential principle of lawlessness is self exaltation. As then will also be established the essential principal of godliness, that God alone must be exalted. Is this not the place to stop and ponder those principles in our own heart? To ponder what very thought and deed has as its motive? What lawlessness or godliness guides us in and what we do? It is to that end all these things point.)

It is in the beginning of the last 3 ½ years that the whole world will wonder after and worship him. [Revelation 13:3-8] It is then they will discover his miraculous recovery from dead. His resurrection from the dead and his unnatural powers will become well known and cause men to proclaim, “Who is like the Beast?” “Who is able to make war with him?…. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”

Of course all of this can be owned to the fact brought out in Daniel 11:38,39 and expounded on in Revelation 13:2,4. “The Dragon gave him his power, and his throne, and great authority.” It is clear that the Anti-Christ accepted what Jesus rejected. “If thou therefore wilt worship before me it shall all be thine.” It is not explicit when this worship occurs. Was it while this man was upon the earth? Or was it after satan receives again the keys of Hades in Revelation 9:1? But the pact of Daniel 8:24 becomes clear in Revelation 17:8-11. It is Paul’s revelation of 2 Thessalonians 2:1-10. He is called the son of perdition as he is a king who once reigned on earth, who now resuscitated/resurrected, afterwards is cast into hell. [Revelation 19:20] Released from the greatest stronghold by the power of satan, they together fiercely and deceivingly reign over the earth to the end-time inhabitants’ demise.

The final verses of Daniel chapter 11 are then set before us, “And at the time of the end.”  The end of the great warfare is approaching. The Anti-Christ must put down a final rebellion. Egypt and nations south are in view, among them the Libyans and Ethiopians. But Edom and Moab, and the chief children of Ammon escape as they are in full alignment with the Anti-Christ. But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him. Babylon, his place, is assailed by possibly the Medes. (Isaiah 13:17, Jeremiah 51:11,28, Revelation 16:17-19, with chapter 18) “…therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many and he shall turn back homewards and come again; and finally into the holy land. [Daniel 11:45] Here the 83rd Psalm comes into view. Here finally, the winepress of God’s wrath manifests. [Revelation 14:17-20] And thus do the schemes of satan and the Anti-Christ come to an end.
